Like I said in this topic I created -amd-radeon-r7-250-hdmi-working-in-mavericks/ I've got the card working fine except for HDMI audio and some freezings in preview for example when I open a HQ picture. Maybe the card just can't handle 3440x1440 properly. But I'm still using chameleon, because clover won't boot, no matter what graphics card I use. I also think I made clear which error occurs so I think I've done what I can.
While these GPUs may share the same family name as the Polaris GPUs, these cards are drastically different, meaning no support in any version of macOS. Similar to Navi and unsupported NVIDIA GPUs, you'll need to disable the Lexa GPU due to how the VESA drivers that unsupported GPUs run off of break sleep and other functions of macOS. Starting with the driver release candidate version v14.501-141112a-177751E, officially named as Catalyst Omega, AMD's driver release introduced VSR on the R9 285 and R9 290 series graphics cards. This feature allows users to run games with higher image quality by rendering frames at above native resolution. Each frame is then downsampled to native resolution. This process is an alternative to supersampling which is not supported by all games. Virtual super resolution is similar to Dynamic Super Resolution, a feature available on competing nVidia graphics cards, but trades flexibility for increased performance.[15][16] VSR can run at a resolution upwards of 2048 x 1536 at a 120 Hz refresh rate or 3840 x 2400 at 60 Hz.[17]
AMD Catalyst is being developed for Microsoft Windows and Linux. As of July 2014, other operating system are not officially supported. This may be different for the AMD FirePro brand, which is based on identical hardware but features OpenGL-certified graphics device drivers.
The free and open-source "Radeon" graphics driver supports most of the features implemented into the Radeon line of GPUs.[5] Unlike the nouveau project for Nvidia graphics cards, the open-source "Radeon" drivers are not reverse engineered, but based on documentation released by AMD.[60]
radeon is a family of open source graphics drivers for older AMD/ATI Radeon graphics cards. Cards based on Graphics Core Next (GCN) 2.0 "Sea Islands" are also fully supported by the newer AMDGPU driver, which also features experimental support for GCN1.1 (Southern Islands). Neither this nor the AMDGPU article cover installation and configuration of the closed source drivers (see the next paragraph).
Be aware AMD has dropped the support for closed source fglrx drivers (called Catalyst on Windows). The fglrx drivers only work with certain versions of the X server. This is contrary to the open source drivers, which are now compiled against the system's currently installed kernel and X server.

Portage uses the VIDEO_CARDS variable for enabling support for various graphics cards. Setting the VIDEO_CARDS variable to radeon (see the feature matrix above) then asking Portage to rebuild the @world set will pull in the correct driver for older radeon cards:
I recommend using two entries in GRUB (with and without DPM) and creating a startscript based on the value of /sys/module/radeon/parameters/dpm (0 = DPM off, 1 = DPM on), in order to automatically adjust the power management, based on the decision at boottime (single-head with DPM vs. multi-head without DPM).
If you are using a kernel older than 3.13, HDMI audio must be explicitly enabled using the kernel commandline paramater radeon.audio=1. In addition, ALSA typically does not use HDMI as the default audio, so one way to force this as the default is to add a config file: 2ff7e9595c
